Office 365 For Business – Introduction
Is your company considering purchasing Office 365 for Business licenses? Are you an entrepreneur or the IT director of a small to medium sized enterprise? Office 365 For Entrepreneurs & SME’s
Microsoft’s introductory offering for entrepreneurs and SME’s is Office 365 Business Essentials. The cost is €4.20 per user per month. The advantage of this offering is that you get access to Hosted Exchange, One Drive for Business, and SharePoint Online. The disadvantage is that users only have access to web and mobile versions of productivity applications, such as Microsoft Excel.
An alternative offering is Office 365 Business which costs €8.80 per user per month. The advantage of this offering is that you get access to One Drive for Business. Users also get access to desktop versions of productivity applications, for example Microsoft Outlook. The disadvantage is that users need to purchase additional licenses to get access to Hosted Exchange, and SharePoint Online.
The premium offering for entrepreneurs and SME’s is Office 365 Business Premium. The cost is €10.50 per user per month. Users get access to the desktop version of productivity applications, in addition to Hosted Exchange, and SharePoint Online.
If you are the more adventurous type, you might consider purchasing an Office 365 Pro Plus license. Why not avail of additional features in Microsoft Excel, for example Power Pivot? Would you like to use Microsoft Publisher? Unfortunately, you must purchase separate licenses for Hosted Exchange and SharePoint Online.
Benefits of Office 365 for Business
A major benefit of Office 365 for Business is scale. You only pay for what you use. You can purchase additional licenses for new staff, in addition to retiring existing licenses for departing staff. Another benefit of Office 365 for Business is security. Administrators can set user passwords to renew every 30 or 60 days. Administrators can also enable 2 factor authentication on user accounts.
Can you purchase licenses for Dynamics 365, Power BI, or Microsoft Project Online as your business grows? The answer is yes. Once you have a tenant agreement in place, you can purchase additional applications through the Microsoft Appsource.
The range of Office 365 for Business licenses are many and varied. Before implementing an Office 365 solution within your business, you need to consider a number of factors. Firstly the growth trajectory of your business. Secondly affordability. Thirdly the complexity of your business. What productivity applications will you need now, and in the future? There is no “one size fits all” solution with regard to Office 365 cloud solutions. You need to step back, and consider the bigger picture, before progressing to the next stage.
